Free festive exhibition turning the Royal Pavilion into a world of fire, frost and fantasy, a seasonal day out for dragon hunters of all ages.
A Fairytale of Frost and Fire opens at the Royal Pavilion on 21 November, and it runs right through to 10 January, so it's there for the whole winter stretch. It's a festive trail that takes over the Pavilion, turning the place into a world of fire, frost and fantasy — a sparkling, frozen land where mysterious beasts hide among royal treasures and mythical creatures roam. The whole thing is pitched as a day out for dragon hunters of all ages, so it works as much for a family trip with the kids as it does for a wander on your own.
Because it's a trail, you're not just standing in one spot; you're moving through the Pavilion, spotting the creatures as you go. The frost and fire theme runs through the whole thing, and the way it's set up — with beasts tucked away among the royal treasures — means you'll be looking closer at the rooms than you usually would. It's the kind of thing that keeps you on your toes, especially if you've got younger ones with you who'll be the first to spot the creatures hiding in the corners.
It's a good one to keep in the back of your mind for the weeks when the weather turns and you're looking for something to do indoors. Since it runs from late November through to mid-January, you can catch it whenever suits you best over the winter, and it's a fair distance from the Christmas rush if you'd rather go in the New Year. The Pavilion is at 4-5 Pavilion Buildings, BN1 1EE, right in the heart of town.
