The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performs the musical adaptation of Raymond Briggs' beloved children's book, The Snowman.
The Snowman comes to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on Tuesday 22 December, with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra taking the lead. It's the musical version of the story, and having the BSO on it puts the music right at the centre of the thing.
If you're not familiar, The Snowman is the one about a boy who builds a snowman, who then comes to life and takes him on a journey through the night. It's a quiet, wintery tale, and the BSO will be playing the score live, so the music carries the story from start to finish rather than relying on dialogue. It's the kind of show that works as much for the kids as it does for anyone who just wants a bit of Christmas nostalgia.
Having the BSO perform it live changes the feel from a recording — you get the full orchestra in the room, and the music is what drives the whole thing. It's a family-friendly one, so it's an easy pick if you're looking for something to do with the younger ones over the holidays.

It's on Tuesday 22 December at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre, just a few days before Christmas, so it sits right in the middle of the festive run. If you're planning to go, it's worth getting your tickets sorted early, as the BSO's Christmas shows tend to fill up as December approaches.
