A family-friendly fundraiser featuring 4,000 plastic ducks racing across the Bourne Stream, with cash prizes and competitions for all ages.
The Great Duck Races return to the Bournemouth Lower Gardens on Saturday 22 August, running from 10:00am to 4:30pm. It's a family-friendly fundraiser that the organisers describe as 'the equivalent of the Grand National for (toy) Ducks', and it's just as it sounds: a whole day spent watching plastic ducks race down the Bourne Stream.
Around 4,000 plastic ducks are set 12 races in total, six in the morning and six in the afternoon. They have to negotiate the stream's natural hurdles and obstacles on their way down, so there's a fair bit of watching and cheering involved. Each race pays out cash prizes of £50, £25 and £10, and the day doesn't stop there — there are further competitions for all ages to get stuck into, like 'Name That Duck'.

The whole thing is held in support of Plants and Minds and Macmillan Caring Locally, so the money goes to a good cause. Tickets are £2 each, and with the races spread across the morning and afternoon, you can drop in for one or stay for the lot. It runs from 10:00am until 4:30pm at the Bournemouth Lower Gardens, BH2 5AH.
