Joss Arnott Dance bring Meet the Hatter to Pavilion Dance South West on Saturday 24 October, a cinematic dance and multimedia spectacle that puts a new spin on the Hatter from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It's the company's most ambitious production to date, choreographed by artistic director Joss Arnott, with Dominic Coffey and Robbie Ordoña sharing the role of the Hatter across the run.
It was created for the company's 15th anniversary and premiered in 2025 to rave reviews, so by the time it reaches Bournemouth it'll have been on the road for a while. The show runs 65 minutes and is billed for audiences aged 5 to 105, though children need to be accompanied by an adult. All About Theatre called it "visually breathtaking, emotionally engaging and bursting with imagination", a family show that celebrates the importance of play and how self-belief can create opportunities.
Behind the scenes, it was commissioned by Lincoln Arts Centre and supported by public funding through the National Lottery and Arts Council England. The multimedia side is a big part of it, so it's not just dance on a stage—there's a cinematic element that runs through the whole thing. If you're taking kids, it's a good length for them to sit through without getting restless, and the 5-to-105 age range means it's intended to work as much for adults as it does for the little ones.
