Annual writing festival with talks, workshops and networking across Bournemouth town centre, celebrating creativity and talent in the local writing scene.
The Bournemouth Writing Festival returns to Bournemouth town centre from 23 to 25 April 2027, three days of talks, workshops and networking spread across the town. It runs under the tagline 'Write by the Sea', and while the main festival takes place over that spring weekend, it's part of a year-round programme of writing events and activities in Bournemouth, aimed at inspiring writers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
The festival celebrates the town's local writing scene and puts on a mix of talks, seminars, panels and performances. The line-up is built for a wide range of people, from young children to published authors, so there's something for different stages of writing. It sits alongside a wider Dorset literary scene that includes the Bridport Literary Festival and the Bournemouth Romance Writing Festival, and the festival itself has won gold for 'Festival / Tourism Event of the Year' for the second year running at the Dorset Tourism Awards.

Because the events are scattered across the town centre, it's easy to build your own version of the weekend. You can drop in for a single talk, spend an afternoon in a workshop, or make a full three days of it. The festival's community has rated it 100% on Facebook, and the focus remains on the local writing scene and the people who make it up.
