A curated art fair bringing together independent artists and art lovers in the Royal Arcade, celebrating original artwork and direct artist sales.
Art in the Arcade is a brand-new curated art fair coming to the Royal Arcade in Boscombe on Saturday 21 November, from 10 am to 4 pm. It's the first edition of the fair, and the whole thing is put on by Millie Lake, who runs it under her curatorial platform, Curated by Millie.
The idea is straightforward: it brings together independent artists and art lovers in one room, with the focus on original artwork and the joy of buying directly from the people who make it. Rather than a traditional gallery, the fair takes contemporary art out of those white walls and puts it in the Royal Arcade, surrounded by the independent shops, local businesses and the particular character of the arcade itself. It's more of a market than a formal exhibition, so you'll be walking through the stalls and chatting with the artists rather than just looking at work on a wall.
Curated by Millie is the platform behind it, and it's what Lake does as an independent curator — putting on exhibitions and events to connect artists with new audiences and make contemporary art a bit more accessible. The artists who take part apply through the platform's own site, so the fair is built from a call for entries rather than just a few known names.
