Stage adaptation of Victoria Wood's beloved BBC sitcom, with Les Dennis, Sue Cleaver, Karen Henthorn and Amy Drake, directed by Sean Foley.
Victoria Wood's dinnerladies is coming to the Birmingham Hippodrome for a short run from Tuesday 2 March to Saturday 6 March 2027. It's a brand new stage adaptation of the sitcom Wood wrote and starred in, and it's the first piece of her work produced by her estate. More than 25 years after it first aired on BBC One, the canteen crew are back together on the Main Stage.
If you remember the original, you'll know the setup: the sharp humour, the warmth, and those brilliantly observed working-class characters in a Manchester canteen. Stan, Bren, Tony, Dolly, Jean, Twinkle and Anita were at the heart of it, and this stage version brings that world back. The production is directed by Sean Foley.
The cast features Les Dennis as Stan, Sue Cleaver as Jean, Karen Henthorn as Dolly and Amy Drake as Bren. Dennis, who plays the maintenance man Stan, knew Wood personally; they performed on the comedy circuit in the 1970s and were both finalists on New Faces, which he's called 'Britain's Got Talent of its day'.
