World premiere of a devotional live artwork at the junction of dance, performance and ritual, by n:u, exploring themes of land ownership and liberation.
n:u (Melissandre Varin) brings FREE(HOLD) to The Drop Inn in Digbeth on Friday 16 October, the world premiere of a devotional live artwork that sits at the junction of dance, performance and ritual. It's a full-length piece dedicated to the practice of trying again and again, and it marks n:u's return to Fierce after an appearance at Tate Britain and a milestone exhibition at Eastside Projects. This time, she's adding four performers to the mix, which should intensify the physical, emotional and psychic sensations of the work.
Those performers are Assia Ghendir, Kelvin Atmadibrata, Sel Kofiga and Echo Morgan. Together they unearth the tensions faced by those settling in the belly of the colonial beast, working with ideas of land ownership, liberation and the inherited, and moving intimately with the ghosts of Empire. The piece asks how systems of dominance, sick capitalism and accumulation condition and pre-determine our (im)possible relationships to place, land and belonging.
