Blues rock gig with Maz Mitrenko, who worked alongside Trevor Burton, mixing originals with classic covers.
The Maz Mitrenko Band play Joe Joe Jims in the Lickey Hills on Friday 6 November, from 20:00 to 23:00. It's a blues rock set from a trio that's been around since 2006, and they've put in a fair bit of mileage since then: hundreds of club and festival dates across the UK, plus two tours of the southern USA that took them through Nashville, Memphis, Alabama and the Mississippi delta.
Frontman Maz Mitrenko spent years working alongside the guitarist and vocalist Trevor Burton, serving as his right-hand man in The Trevor Burton Band. He also played lead guitar with The Handsome Beasts, who featured on the album The Beast Within. These are the roots the band draws from, and you'll hear it in the set: they mix their own original songs with covers of Rory Gallagher and Jimi Hendrix. There's a new CD of ten original songs due early 2025, so the newer material should be well in hand by the time they hit the stage in November.
On the night, Mitrenko takes guitar and lead vocals, with Phil Brittle on drums and Pete Vickers on bass. Both Brittle and Vickers are well-regarded Midlands session musicians, and Vickers has played with Tony McPhee and Andy Hart. Together they've built a reputation as a tight UK blues and classic rock act, and this is a good chance to catch them in a proper live setting.
