Texas play their 'White On Blonde' 30th anniversary tour at Utilita Arena Birmingham, with Glasgow band Del Amitri as support.
Texas play Utilita Arena Birmingham on Saturday 30 October 2027, with doors opening at 18:00. It's a date on the tour marking 30 years of White On Blonde, the 1997 album that went six times platinum in the UK and remains their best-selling record.
If you're not familiar with the history, Texas are a Scottish pop band from Bearsden, near Glasgow, founded in 1986 by Johnny McElhone — formerly of Altered Images and Hipsway — with Sharleen Spiteri on lead vocals. They took their name from the Wim Wenders film Paris, Texas and played their first gig at the University of Dundee in March 1988. Their 1989 debut Southside reached number three in the UK, and White On Blonde leaned into the band's love of soul and trip-hop. The album has since been reissued alongside a new single, 'Another Way To Cry'.
Support comes from fellow Glasgow band Del Amitri, formed around 1979-80 by teenagers Justin Currie, James Scobbie and Donald Bentley. They've got a funny story about their name: they chose it precisely because it meant nothing but sounded like a person's name.
