A Black History Month special stand-up show hosted by Judith Jacobs, featuring Curtis Walker, Richard Blackwood and Toju, drawing on the classic BBC series 'The Real McCoy'.
Stand Up With The Real McCoy comes to The Studio at Birmingham Rep on Saturday 17 October, a Black History Month special that brings the spirit of the old BBC comedy series to the stage. If you remember The Real McCoy, you'll know it was a bit of a landmark for British comedy, and this night is built around that same energy: sharp wit, cultural comedy, and a line-up of stand-up sets.
Judith Jacobs, one of the original stars of the series, returns to host the evening. She'll be introducing three show favourites, each bringing their own style to the bill. There's Curtis Walker, known for his feel-good humour; Richard Blackwood, who actually made his comedy debut on the original series; and Toju, who brings a fresh and fearless energy to the mix. With three different comics on the bill, it's a full night of stand-up rather than a single act.
The show is billed as a Black History Month special, so it sits right in the middle of the city's celebrations this October. It's an evening of cultural comedy that looks back at the series that helped change the face of British comedy while keeping the focus on the live sets. The age guidance is 16+, and no under-5s are admitted.
