Painting workshop led by artist Seema of Clever Casts where women over 19 paint a candle holder, trinket or plaster figure.
Sistermatic Change are hosting a candle holder and trinket painting workshop at Saint Ambrose Barlow RC Church on Saturday 14 November, from 12:00 to 15:00. The session is led by local artist Seema from Clever Casts, and the whole afternoon is about taking your time with something tactile. You get to pick a plaster product to paint — a candle holder, a trinket, or a plaster figure — and you take home whatever you make.
There's a bit more to it than just a one-off afternoon, though. The workshop is called Sisterhood in Colour, the fourth in a series of ten wellbeing sessions under the banner Sistermatic Change: Rise & Thrive, which is funded by YNNS. The whole programme was put together to help women from across the Midlands and members of the Deaf community connect, look after their wellbeing, and pick up some new skills. This particular session fits into that: it's as much about the company as it is about the painting.
It's set up to be inclusive, too. A British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter is there throughout, so you don't have to worry about missing a thing, and there's tea and coffee on hand to keep the afternoon going. The workshop is open to women aged 19 and over, and since it's part of a wider series, it's one of those things that's as much about the people you meet as the thing you end up with.
