One-night-only special adaptation of the award-winning show REWIND, a tribute to the victims of the Bosnian genocide, using forensic anthropology and survivor memories.
REWIND: Bosnia and Herzegovina comes to The Door at Birmingham Rep on Monday 19 October, a one-night-only adaptation of the award-winning show REWIND. It's presented by Ephemeral Ensemble, Remembering Srebrenica, artist Katie Taylor and Professor Alison Ribeiro de Menezes.
The original REWIND was named one of The Guardian's Best 10 Theatre Shows of 2024 and is a multi-award-winning production. This special adaptation returns for a single performance, piecing together a scientific examination of a crime secretly buried. It draws on the humanitarian work of forensic anthropology — the first science in history to investigate human rights violations — and on the memories of survivors. It's framed as a respectful and sensitive tribute to the victims of the Bosnian and Herzegovina Genocide.
On stage, live music, movement, puppetry, projection and lighting follow Hasan, a young man facing authoritarianism. Critics have called it 'truly astonishing and inspiring' (Voice Magazine), 'a rare find with a touching and important message' (Theatre and Tonic) and 'kaleidoscopically creative' (The Stage).
