Biennial exhibition of contemporary art celebrating creativity and innovation, with Gwenda Jones's 'Lines That Shape Us' as the prize-winning work.
The RBSA Prize 2026 is on at the RBSA Gallery throughout October, running from the 1st to the 31st. It's a biennial exhibition that celebrates creativity and innovation at the cutting edge of contemporary art, and this year's selection is spread across Galleries 1 and 2 on three floors of the gallery. The RBSA takes in artists from locally, nationally and internationally, but they make a point of encouraging those with more contemporary practices to submit, so the whole thing is geared towards work that's pushing boundaries.
Among the entries is Lines That Shape Us by Gwenda Jones. Her work was selected from 135 entries by 115 artists, and it comes from a series of headless female figures that went on to lead her creating the trophies for the 2026 Women in Art Prize Awards. The RBSA Gallery is one of the city's more active contemporary arts venues, and the prize itself is decided by a panel of judges: first prize is £1,000, second is £500, and third is £250, with up to six highly commended certificates given out as well.
