Open Mic Night

The Actress & Bishop hosts another Open Mic Night on Wednesday 21 October, with Joe Oakes running the show. It's a free night, and the stage is open to singers, poets and everything in between, so the bill is built on whoever turns up on the night rather than a fixed line-up.

Oakes describes the night as being about discovering new talent, throwing the stage open to anyone who wants it and letting the audience create a supportive and friendly vibe. It's not just for the performers, either — he says it's aimed as much at anyone who loves live music and creative energy as at the people taking part. If you've got something you've been working on and want to get it in front of people, you can get involved by emailing the venue.

The night is part of a series held every third Wednesday of the month, so if this one doesn't fit your schedule, there's usually another one a few weeks on. It's strictly over-18s, and the live music kicks off at 20:00, with a resident DJ keeping things going until 2am.

So, the live slots run from 20:00, and the DJ takes over after that, with the whole thing running until 2am. It's free entry, and the venue is The Actress & Bishop, 36 Ludgate Hill, B3 1EH Birmingham.
