The Melvin Hancox Band return to Joe Joe Jims with blues, rock and psychedelic covers, including 'Highway to Hell' and 'Freebird'.
The Melvin Hancox Band return to Joe Joe Jims on Friday 23 October, playing from 8:00pm to 10:30pm. It's a power trio with Mickey Barker on drums and James Hoskins on bass, and the set mixes their own original material with rock and blues covers they've put their own spin on. 'Highway to Hell' and 'Freebird' are known to make an appearance.
Melvin Hancox has a long and varied career behind him. He secured his first record deal at 16 and went on to form Vincent Flatts Final Drive, a band that became a Joe Joe Jims favourite. Since then he's worked with Budgie, Man, Tony McPhee, Canned Heat and the Ace Kefford, among many others. The trio describes their sound as 'blues/rock played with more psychedelic experience and imagination than most'.
They've been playing together since 2019 and have put out two albums of original compositions in that time. They also appeared on The Half Time Orange, a sampler for the Fruits der Mer label. They're one of the hardest-working live bands in the country, with radio sessions for Pete Feenstra & The Blues and Beyond and a feature on BBC Radio 2's The Blues Show with Cerys Matthews.
