Live R&B tribute show fronted by Gamal John with hits from Luther Vandross, Alexander O'Neal, Marvin Gaye and others.
Luther Live & Velvet Voices comes to the Birmingham Alexandra on Sunday 24 January 2027, starting at 19:30. It's a live theatre experience built around the golden era of R&B, and the set focuses on the smooth sounds of Luther Vandross and Alexander O'Neal, with tributes to R&B royalty like Marvin Gaye, Bobby Brown and George Benson. The songs come from the 80s and 90s, so if you grew up with those decades on the stereo, you'll recognise a good deal of what they're working through.
Gamal John fronts the show. He's described as a Britain's Got Talent gold buzzer rule breaker, and the judges on the show had a fair few words about his performance: Alesha Dixon called him an 'Absolute Superstar', Simon Cowell a 'Masterclass', Bruno Tonioli 'Gobsmacked and Speechless' and Amanda Holden 'Amazing'.
