Concert of cinematic music for sitar and strings by Jasdeep Singh Degun, with the CBSO string players and tabla player Harkiret Singh Bahra.
Jasdeep Singh Degun plays the CBSO Centre on Thursday 26 November, with the CBSO strings joining him on stage. It's a programme of cinematic music for sitar and strings, and Degun is both the composer and the sitarist, so the evening is built around his own writing.
Degun describes his work as blending the ancient traditions of ragas with contemporary techniques. On the night, he's joined by tabla player Harkiret Singh Bahra, and together they're joined by CBSO string players to co-create a musical tale driven by the spontaneity of the Indian classical tradition. The performance runs about an hour and a half, with a 20-minute interval.
It's part of Live at the Centre, the CBSO's own intimate live-performance series staged at the orchestra's home, designed to give audiences closer access to the music. The evening sits within the CBSO's 2026-27 season under Music Director Kazuki Yamada, a season that pairs major symphonic journeys with soloists and conductors, new commissions, international touring and cross-genre collaborations.
