Talk by BBC International Editor Jeremy Bowen on how information is manipulated in conflict zones, followed by a Q&A session.
Jeremy Bowen is coming to Birmingham Town Hall on Monday 19 October, for a talk titled Truth Under Fire. He's the BBC's International Editor, and he's spent more than 40 years as a foreign correspondent, covering more than 90 countries and 20 wars. That's a career that stretches from El Salvador in 1989 to the frontlines of Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Sudan and Yemen. Along the way he's interviewed world leaders and documented war crimes.
In the talk he draws on that experience to describe how access for journalists has changed and how information is manipulated, especially with the prominence of social media. It's a look at how the job of reporting from a conflict zone has shifted over the decades he's been doing it. The second half of the evening opens it up, with the audience getting the chance to put their own questions to him.
