Introductory WSET Level 1 wine course held at Loki Wine in Birmingham.
Loki Wine is running a WSET Level 1 Wine Course in Birmingham on Sunday 31 January 2027. It's a one-day session, so you're in and out in a single afternoon rather than committing to a long-term class. If you've spent your life buying wine based on the label or the price tag and have never really known why one bottle tastes the way it does, this is where you start.
Level 1 is the entry point of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, and it's built for people who are just starting to take an interest. You'll get a run-through of the main grape varieties, how wine is made, and the basics of how to taste and describe what's in your glass. It's not about becoming an expert overnight; it's about getting a handle on the terminology so you can actually talk about what you're drinking without guessing.
One of the best things about it is that it's a tasting course, so you'll be working through a range of different styles rather than just listening to a lecture. You'll taste your way through the session, which is the only way to really make the theory stick. By the end, you'll have a better sense of the differences between a few of the world's most common wines and a bit more confidence when you're standing in the wine aisle.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Birmingham and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's held at Loki Wine in Birmingham, and the cost is £220.00. That covers the day's tuition and the wines you'll be tasting throughout. If you've been meaning to get a proper introduction to wine but didn't know where to start, this is a straightforward way to do it.
