Elvis tribute show by Evan King, with a live band, covering the singer's early years from Sun Records to his movie stardom.
Evan King brings his Elvis tour to The Old Rep in Birmingham on Friday 23 October, with a full live band behind him. It's a tribute to the early years of Elvis Presley, and the set follows that timeline pretty closely.
It starts with the Sun Records recordings in Memphis, the raw rock and roll that first put him on the map, and then moves into the movie years that turned him into a global star. So you'll hear the early singles and the songs from those first films, the ones that made him a household name across the world. It's the early part of his career that takes centre stage here, rather than the later Vegas years.
King doesn't do it alone, either — he's backed by a live band throughout, so the sound comes from a full group on stage rather than just a backing track. That makes a difference when you're dealing with those early rock and roll numbers, which always work better with a proper band behind them.
