Satirical stage show by Michael Spicer, the creator of the viral hit 'The Room Next Door', with sketches, short films and stories about the current political and global 'shitshow'.
Michael Spicer brings his satirical stage show Hope all's well to The Old Rep on Friday 6 November, presented by Mick Perrin Worldwide in association with Sophie Chapman talent. If you've come across Spicer's work online, you'll know him as the force behind The Room Next Door, the award-winning viral hit that put him on the map. This is the live follow-up, and it's a proper stage production rather than a stand-up set.
The show is built around sketches, short films and stories, all focused on the current political and global 'shitshow' as he puts it. It's not just new material, either: he brings to the stage characters from his BBC Radio 4 show No Room, alongside some of his older friends. Radio Times called him a 'huge comedy talent', and this is the full-length version of that work. One thing to keep in mind before you book: the production contains strong language and adult themes, so it's definitely one for the grown-ups.
As for the venue, The Old Rep is home to one of Birmingham's oldest theatre companies, and it's a working space as much as a performance one — they run a sister theatre and hire out for corporate bookings, filming, rehearsals and workshops. It's a proper Birmingham institution, and this is one of the nights they're hosting this autumn.
