Fundraiser night with the Georgian choir Ensemble Bednieri and a new Supersonic House Band playing punk and post-punk covers, with a bake sale and raffle.
Ensemble Bednieri are playing The Castle & Falcon on Thursday 17 December, as part of a festive fundraiser put on by Supersonic. All profits from the night go to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), so it's one of those gigs where the ticket money actually goes somewhere specific.
Bednieri are a Georgian choir known for their polyphonic singing, and they're the main draw of the evening. They'll be sharing the bill with a brand new Supersonic House Band, a live act the festival has never staged before. The house band is drawn from a rotating group of Birmingham artists and they're playing a full set of covers, with Bikini Kill, Fugazi, Gang of Four, Beastie Boys, Misfits and Patti Smith all on the list. It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one set, running from punk and post-punk to hip hop and new wave.
There's more to the night than just the two acts. Hipkiss & Graney are running a pass-the-parcel game, the Supersonic Raffle is back, there's a LOAF bake sale, and Kikimora will be on the decks. It's a long evening with a few different things happening around the music, so it's more of a full night out than a standard gig.
