Punk poet John Cooper Clarke brings his Have It Tour 2026 to the Town Hall, with Henry Normal, Mike Garry and Salena Godden.
Dr John Cooper Clarke is playing the Town Hall on Saturday 24 October, one of the Birmingham dates on his Have It tour. He's known as the Godfather of Punk Poetry, and that's a fair way to put it: fast, sharp, and delivered with a distinct voice that's as much about the rhythm as the words. If you've never seen him live, the description tells you exactly what to expect — the sort of thing that works just as well on a record as it does on a stage.
He's not the only one on the bill. The night opens with three support acts: Salena Godden, Henry Normal, and Mike Garry. All three bring their own approach to the spoken word, so the evening is a full run of poetry rather than just one name. It's a good way to see a few different voices in one go before Clarke takes over.
This is part of the Have It tour, a ten-date run of shows that Clarke is taking across the country, with Birmingham being one of the stops. It's a proper tour, not a one-off, so the set is built for the road. If you're taking anyone younger, keep in mind that under-14s have to be accompanied by an adult.
