Wine tasting and masterclass evening of Italian wines and hospitality from the Lazio region at Loki Wine Bar.
Loki Wine Bar is turning its attention to the Lazio region of Italy on Monday 19 October, with a tasting and masterclass that puts the wines of central Italy centre stage. If you've spent any time with Italian wine, Lazio is often the one that slips through the cracks, overshadowed by the heavy hitters of Tuscany and Piedmont, so this is a good chance to get a proper look at what it actually does.
The evening is built around two things: the tasting itself and a masterclass to go with it. You'll work your way through a selection of wines from the region, and the masterclass fills in the gaps, giving you the context behind what's in the glass rather than just a list of tasting notes. It's the kind of setup that works whether you're just there to drink and hang out or you actually want to walk away knowing a bit more about the region.
Loki sits in the Great Western Arcade, right in the heart of the city. It's part of a Birmingham food and drink scene that's always felt a bit like a conversation between the city's industrial past and its newer, more diverse side, and Loki fits that well — a spot where traditional hospitality meets a more contemporary approach to wine. The city's wine scene often flies under the radar, but it's strong and growing, with independent bars in the Jewellery Quarter and the city centre running regular tastings and masterclasses like this one.
