Festive wine-tasting evening led by Tony Elvin of The Wine Events Company, staged at the Nakatomi Christmas Party and paired with a screening of Die Hard.
Die Hard with Wine comes to The Crescent Theatre on Wednesday 16 December, a festive wine-tasting night that pairs a screening of Die Hard with a guided flight of wines. It's presented by Tony Elvin of The Wine Events Company, who describes himself as a wine geek and leads the evening.
The whole thing is framed as the Nakatomi Christmas Party, so you're effectively crashing the party from the movie. It kicks off with a glass of festive fizz, and then the screening of Die Hard takes over. The film doesn't run straight through, though; it pauses several times throughout the night to top you up with four more wines, each chosen for the Christmas season. By the time the credits roll, you've worked your way through five different bottles.
It's a bit of a double-feature in one: you get the full movie and a guided tasting running alongside it. If you're more of a wine person than a movie buff, the focus is on the flight; if you're there for the action, the wine is the accompaniment. Either way, you're not just sitting in the dark for two hours—the pauses break the film up and give you a chance to talk about what's in your glass.

One thing to keep in mind before you book: the production contains strong language, violent scenes and adult themes, which is to be expected from Die Hard. It's a night for adults, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of bringing anyone who might find it a bit much. The screening is in the Main House at The Crescent Theatre, 20 Sheepcote St, Birmingham B16 8AE, starting at 19:00.
