Darkling plays at The Door, Birmingham Rep on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, two nights in the city. It's a co-production between the Bush Theatre and Actors Touring Company, and it's coming to us from the London stage.
The play is set in Bhopal, India, in 1984, and it's an epic story of a life ravaged by ecological disaster, inspired by the city's gas tragedy. It follows a girl growing up with her father and sister as a giant factory rises over their town, until a night that tears everything apart. It's written by Titas Halder, who also wrote Foal at the Finborough, and directed by Matthew Xia, known for Tambo & Bones at ATC and Stratford East. The production stars Linnea Berthelsen, best known globally as Kali Prasad in Netflix's Stranger Things, and critics have described the show as ferocious, brutal and damning, with particular praise for her performance.
