Northern Broadsides' bold and playful adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel about a penniless student who murders and is pursued by a cunning detective.
Northern Broadsides bring Crime and Punishment to The Studio at the Birmingham Rep from Wednesday 7 April to Saturday 10 April 2027. It's their take on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel, which The Guardian described as a 'gripping portrait of Dostoevsky's murderous antihero'.
The story follows a penniless student who murders in cold blood and then finds himself caught in a spiral of paranoia and delusion. As he unravels, a cunning detective circles closer, and the only way out seems to be the chance of love. Northern Broadsides are known for a bold and playful style, and that's what they're bringing to this particular adaptation.
It's a long one, running about three hours including an interval, so you'll want to clear a proper evening for it. It's recommended for ages 12 and over, and there are no under-5s admitted. If you need a captioned performance, there's one on Friday 9 April at 7.30pm.
