The Tony and Olivier award-winning musical about Roxie Hart, with its score by Kander and Ebb and choreography in the style of Bob Fosse.
Chicago is coming to the Birmingham Hippodrome from Tuesday 27 July to Saturday 7 August 2027, playing on the Main Stage. It's a good stretch of dates, so you've got plenty of options if you can't make a particular night.
The story is set in the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s and follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. From there, she works the public, the media, and her rival cellmate Velma Kelly, hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to turn the whole thing into a barrage of sensational headlines. It's a story about fame, manipulation, and the way the legal system can be played for the right price.
Behind the scenes, it's the work of musical theatre duo John Kander and Fred Ebb, with choreography in the style of the legendary Bob Fosse. That Fosse influence is a big part of the show's identity, and the score includes 'Razzle Dazzle', 'Cell Block Tango', and 'All That Jazz'. It's picked up six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and a Grammy along the way, and the Metro once described it as the 'sexiest musical ever'.
