A concert blending Jewish and Middle Eastern musical traditions with spoken word, presented by the CBSO Community Board and BADA as part of Bangla Month 2026.
Led by double bassist and composer Daphna Sadeh-Neu, this special evening brings together music, poetry and spoken word in a rich celebration of Jewish and Middle Eastern musical traditions.
Joining Daphna on stage are Kohinoor Yasmin, a Birmingham-based poet renowned for her community poetry events and evocative, nature-inspired writing, and Dr Ali Shair, a bansuri (bamboo flute) player whose work bridges ethnography and creative practice.
The second half of the programme features the Eastern Strings Quartet, bringing together an exceptional ensemble of musicians: Daphna Sadeh-Neu on double bass, whose work includes releases on Tzadik Records and commissions for orchestras and ensembles; Knud Stüwe on oud, a composer and arranger; Tom Verity of Welsh National Opera on clarinet; acclaimed world music percussionist Ricardo de Noronha; and a trio of string players Julia Åberg and Charlotte Skinner on violins, Jacqueline Tyler on cello from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO).
