An improvised musical comedy in which a troupe of improvisers creates a one-act musical with no script or score, built from audience suggestions.
Birmingham Improv bring Noteworthy - The Made Up Musical to 1000 Trades on Wednesday 23 December, a one-act musical comedy made up from scratch on the night. There's no script and no score: the whole thing is built on suggestions shouted out by the audience, so nothing is pre-planned. The pianist makes up the music on the spot, and the performers are as surprised as the crowd by where the story goes, from the characters and plotlines to the tunes that come out of it.
The cast for this one is Nat, Rob, Jacky, Dave, Katie and Emma, with Geddes on piano. They're a rag-tag bunch of improvisers from across the Midlands, and there's a maths teacher in the mix too. The show usually runs between 20 and 50 minutes, and because it's all improvised, it'll be different every time they do it.
Reviews have called it 'an absolute must-see at the Fringe' and 'hilarious', with the cast described as 'truly masters at what they do'. It's billed as a collision of comedy, improvisation and musical theatre, and since the songs are made up as they go, you'll hear them for the first time right there in the room.
