UK tour of the Olivier Award-winning musical adaptation of the 1985 film, with Axel Duffy as Marty McFly and Roger Bart as Doc Brown.
Back to the Future The Musical is coming to the Birmingham Hippodrome from 9 March to 10 April 2027, as part of its first UK tour. It's the stage adaptation of the 1985 film, conceived by the movie's original creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. Axel Duffy takes on the role of Marty McFly, with Roger Bart as Doc Brown.
If you're coming to it from the film, the music will be the first thing you recognise. The show keeps the hits from the original soundtrack, including 'The Power of Love', 'Johnny B. Goode', 'Earth Angel' and 'Back in Time'. Around those, there's a new book by Gale and original music and lyrics from multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. It's directed by Tony Award winner John Rando.
The 1985 film became an overnight sensation, grossing more than $381 million worldwide and spawning two sequels in 1989 and 1990. The stage version has picked up its own set of awards, taking Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards, the WhatsOnStage Awards and the Broadway World Awards. Critics have described it as a 'high-voltage comedy' and a 'feel-good triumph', with a show-stopping DeLorean that 'defies the laws of theatre'.
