Wine tasting of selections from Austria and Germany held at Loki Great Western Arcade.
Loki Great Western Arcade is hosting Across the Alps: Austria & Germany Wine Tasting on Saturday 31 October, a tasting that puts the wines of Austria and Germany centre stage. It's a midday session, starting at 12:00, so it's one of those Saturday afternoons that doesn't cut into your evening.
The focus is on selections from across the Alps, with bottles from Austria and Germany side by side. If you've spent most of your time with the usual suspects from France, Italy, or Spain, this is a good way to get a proper look at two regions that often get overlooked. Austria and Germany share a lot of the same ground — both are known for their whites, both have a strong tradition of Riesling, and both have been doing more with their reds in recent years — so having them in the same room makes it easy to compare how they differ.
It's a tasting, not a dinner, so the whole thing is about the wine. You'll work through a range of bottles from both countries, one after the other, rather than just a few random glasses. It's a good way to build a bit of a map of what these two regions actually taste like, and to pick up a few favourites you might not have come across otherwise.
