Theatrical farce by Mischief Theatre about a disastrous amateur production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong is coming to The Alexandra in Birmingham from 16 to 20 February 2027. It's the latest from Mischief Theatre, the team behind the theatrical farce The Play That Goes Wrong, as well as Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery. If you've seen any of those, you'll know the drill: the joke isn't the story itself, but the absolute chaos of putting it on stage.
This one takes on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, with the fictional Cornley Amateur Drama Society attempting a televised version. The plot follows the cast as they battle miscommunication, set delays, and actors missing in action, all while a feud grows over who gets to play the lead. It's the same kind of farcical disaster Mischief has built their reputation on, and this production follows a televised version from 2017.

Behind the scenes, the show is written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, the trio responsible for the original The Play That Goes Wrong. They've made a career out of things going spectacularly wrong on stage, and this is their take on a Christmas classic, though it lands in February rather than December. The run at The Alexandra is short, with five performances from 16 to 20 February.
