German-Brazilian jazz and Brazilian music ensemble Tudo Azul plays Studio Ulster, with a samba band and surprise guests from the Belfast music scene.
Tudo Azul play Studio Ulster on Tuesday 20 October, part of the Belfast International Arts Festival 2026. They're a German-Brazilian ensemble from Hannover, and the name translates as 'everything blue'. The night is built around Brazilian music, with Beat Carnival's Beat'N'Drum samba band on the bill and surprise guests from the Belfast music scene joining in.
The band's story is a bit of a romance: it started when a German jazz drummer fell in love with a singing ballerina from Brazil and became so captivated by the richness of Brazilian music that he started writing melodies and adopting Brazilian rhythms. From there, they worked their way into renowned jazz clubs and the State Opera in Hannover, and they were finalists in Germany's biggest jazz youth competition, the Leverkusener Jazztagen. After their debut album, another Brazilian musician joined the ensemble, which brought two exceptional female musicians to the foreground. They play Brazilian jazz and Brazilian music, and this Belfast appearance is one of their dates for the festival.
It's a long way from Hannover to Belfast, but the night is more than just the one band. Beat'N'Drum brings the samba side of things, and the surprise guests from the local scene mean the bill draws in people from around the city. The whole thing falls under the Belfast International Arts Festival, so it's part of a wider run of events across the city that month.
