Career retrospective of broadcaster Simon Mayo with archive clips, a conversation with Ralph McLean, an audience Q&A and a book signing, part of the Belfast International Arts Festival.
Simon Mayo is coming to Queen's Film Theatre on Saturday 24 October for a career retrospective that looks back over more than four decades on air. He'll be in conversation with broadcaster Ralph McLean, with the evening produced by Tim Burden. It's part of the 64th Belfast International Arts Festival, which runs from 14 October to 8 November with more than 200 events across 30 venues.
If you've listened to the radio over the last few decades, you've likely come across him. His Radio 1 shows in the 1980s and 1990s helped define an era of broadcasting, and in later years he became well known for his film conversations with Mark Kermode alongside his work across radio and television. He's also had success as a novelist. The evening is built around that long stretch of broadcasting, with archive clips shown on the QFT's big screen, conversation, and an audience Q&A. There's a book signing afterwards, too.
It's a good way to see how a career like that actually fits together, from the early Radio 1 days through to the film chats and the books. The archive clips give you the sound of it rather than just hearing about it, and the Q&A means you can ask your own questions. It's a single session, not a full-day thing, so it's easy to fit in.

The session starts at 6:00pm and runs for an hour and a half. Tickets are £20, with a £18 concession. It's at Queen's Film Theatre, 20 University Square, Belfast.
