Britpop band Shed Seven play Mandela Hall in Belfast with back-to-back classics.
Shed Seven are playing Mandela Hall on Friday 23 October, one of two shows they're doing in Belfast. They've been around since the Britpop heyday, when they racked up 15 Top 40 hits, including 'Going For Gold', 'Chasing Rainbows', 'Disco Down' and 'On Standby'. The York band hit a career milestone in January 2024 with A Matter of Time, their first-ever number one album on the UK charts.
The line-up on stage is Paul Banks, Robert 'Maxi' Maxfield, Tim Wills, Rick Witter and Tom Gladwin. The Belfast date is billed as one of two shows the band is playing, and they're promising back-to-back Shed Seven classics throughout. It's a set built on the songs that made them one of the big hitters of the Britpop era, with the newer material sitting alongside the older records.
If you're not fully up to speed, the Britpop tag is the easiest way to place them, though they fit into the wider indie and Madchester scenes too. They've stayed active long enough to see the songs that put them on the map—the ones like 'Going For Gold' and 'Chasing Rainbows'—become the classics they're now touring. The number one album A Matter of Time arrived early last year, so there's recent work to go with the older catalogue.
