One-day creative workshop on paper marbling, with materials included, led by artist Aroona Murphy at The Duncairn.
Aroona Murphy is running a paper marbling workshop at The Duncairn on Friday 4 December, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. It's part of Mindful Makes, a series of creative classes she's been leading at the venue, which also included a mandala session on 7 November.
If you've never come across marbling, the process is a bit of a trip. You float paint on a thickened liquid bath called a 'size', swirl it into patterns, and then transfer the whole thing onto paper or card. The result is a one-off piece of abstract art that you've made yourself, rather than something you've just painted on a flat page.
Murphy describes the process as calm and relaxed, and there's a particular kind of appeal to it: the patterns are spontaneous, and the maker has very little control over exactly how they turn out. It's more about letting the paint do its own thing than trying to force a specific image, which fits the Mindful Makes name. You don't need any prior experience to get stuck in.
