Weekly free drop-in session for adults to knit, crochet, cross stitch and other crafts, share tips and meet new people.
Knit and Natter runs every Friday at Whiterock Library in Belfast, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. It's a drop-in session for adults who enjoy knitting, crochet, cross stitch and other crafts, so you don't need to book a spot or commit to a course — you just turn up when you fancy it.
The format is straightforward: you bring along a project you're already working on, or start something new on the day. It's as much about the chatting as the making, and the session is open to anyone who enjoys these kinds of crafts. Between the stitches, people share hints and tips, swap patterns, meet new people and pick up new skills. If you've got a half-finished jumper or a piece of embroidery that's been sitting in a basket for months, this is a good place to finally get it finished.
It's also part of something larger. The group sits within a city-wide programme of activities for older adults run by Belfast City Council, which works with age-friendly partners to offer free sessions across the city and online. That programme covers a fair bit of ground: wellness and fitness, arts and crafts, talks and tours, music and dance, social get-togethers, film screenings, and digital and tech support. Knit and Natter is the crafting side of that, so if you're into making things, it's one of several ways to get involved.
