Acoustic, unplugged duo set by Jarrod and Claire Dickenson, playing stripped-back versions of their songs on the Small Talk Tour.
Jarrod and Claire Dickenson are playing the Ulster Sports Club on Thursday 17 December as part of the Small Talk Tour, a run of acoustic dates they're taking to intimate venues across the UK. It's a duo set, stripped-back and unplugged, so the songs you might know in their full-band versions are played down to their barest elements here.
The set draws on material from each of Jarrod's full-length albums and EPs, so it's a good way to hear his back catalogue in one go rather than in separate chunks. Alongside those, they'll debut a handful of new songs from his upcoming record, which means you'll get a first look at what's coming next before it's officially out. Between the older songs and the new ones, the night covers a fair bit of ground.
Jarrod Dickenson is a Texas-born songwriter whose slightly spooky melodies and lyrics evoke a mid-Western post-war America. That's a useful way to think about the mood he's after, and hearing it in a stripped-back setting like this brings those melodies and lyrics right to the front. The Belfast date is presented by Hooked Promotions and is for ages 18 and over.
