Thirteenth edition of the Irish Whiskey Awards, held for the first time in Belfast at McConnell's Distillery, with all proceeds supporting Mary's Meals.
The Irish Whiskey Awards are coming to McConnell's Distillery on Thursday 3 December, and it's a first for Belfast. The awards are run by the Celtic Whiskey Shop on Dawson Street in Dublin, and this is their thirteenth year. They recognise the best Irish whiskey and spirits from across the island, with categories for whiskey, poitín, gin, vodka and liqueurs, all judged through blind tastings coordinated with whiskey societies and clubs.
The venue itself has a bit of a story. McConnell's Distillery was created by turning the A-Wing of Crumlin Road Gaol into a state-of-the-art distillery and visitor experience. Since relaunching in 2020, the 1776 Belfast-born brand has expanded to more than 45 countries and picked up over 60 international awards. There's also a 'McConnell's Presents' hub on site that brings the city's food, arts and music talent to the distillery.

Chief Executive John Kelly described the awards as another step in putting Belfast back on the global whisky map. It's also a night that gives back: all proceeds from ticket sales and entry fees go to Mary's Meals. So, if you're into whiskey and spirits, it's a good one to have on the radar for early December.
