Evening with Colin Davidson presenting seven new portraits, with an in-conversation session with Declan Lawn, Lisa McGee and Saoirse-Monica Jackson.
Colin Davidson is presenting seven new portraits at the Lyric Theatre on Sunday 1 November, as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival. The evening is built around those seven new works, with an in-conversation session following on, where Davidson sits down with Declan Lawn, Lisa McGee and Saoirse-Monica Jackson.
It's a double-bill of a night: first the new portraits, then the conversation. The guest list for that second half brings together three very different voices from the city's creative life — Lawn, McGee and Jackson — to talk through the work with Davidson. If you've followed any of them, you'll know they don't usually share a stage, so seeing them in one room should be half the draw.
And there's a bit of wider context to keep in mind. The night is part of the Belfast International Arts Festival, which runs across the city every year and brings together music, dance, theatre and visual art. The Lyric has been a long-standing collaborator with the festival, and it's Northern Ireland's only full-time producing theatre — a title that earned it a 5 Star accreditation from Tourism NI, the first arts venue to get it. The building itself is almost three times the size of the old theatre, with the 389-seat Mainstage, the Naughton Studio, and a rehearsal room the same size as the main auditorium stage, plus an education suite, a cafe/bar and a river terrace overlooking the Lagan and the Botanic Gardens.
