Six-week improvers crochet class for people with some crochet experience to expand their stitch vocabulary and work on a guided project.
Aroona Murphy is running an improvers crochet course at The Duncairn in North Belfast, starting Wednesday 4 November. It's a six-week run, with weekly sessions from 6pm to 8pm, taking you through to 8 December.
This is the next step after The Duncairn's absolute beginners classes, so it's aimed at people who've got the basics down and want to expand their stitch vocabulary. Over the six weeks, you'll work through a guided project, and the sessions are relaxed and informal, progressing at each person's own pace. You'll pick up versatile stitches like the ripple stitch and the block stitch, and learn how to work in a circle.
As for what you actually make, there's a bit of choice. You can put those stitches into a scarf or a cowl, a cotton shopping bag, or keep going with something larger like a blanket or a runner — the pattern is supplied, so you're not left guessing. It's a good way to move from just knowing a few stitches to actually finishing a proper piece.
