Heavy metal night pairing Northern Irish band Darkest Era with Swedish Viking metal act Ereb Altor at Voodoo.
Darkest Era play Voodoo on Friday 23 October, with Swedish Viking metal band Ereb Altor supporting. The night is presented by The Distortion Project, and it's for ages 18 and over.
Darkest Era formed in Northern Ireland back in 2006. They've built their name on emotive, atmospheric heavy metal, and the list of things they draw on is a broad one: Bathory and Nick Cave sit alongside Irish folk and Yorkshire doom. They released The Last Caress of Light on Metal Blade Records in 2011, followed by Severance, and recorded their third album, Wither on the Vine, with Chris Fielding — who's worked with Winterfylleth, Conan and Primordial — at Wales' Foel Studios. Guitarist Ade Mulgrew describes the sound as 'dark metal', mixing black and doom metal with a classic rock sense of tone.
They're paired here with Ereb Altor, Swedish Viking metal warriors billed as a night of epic, battle-ready riffs, soaring melodies and thunderous rhythms steeped in myth and steel. Between the two, you've got the atmospheric, folk-tinged side of the heavier end of things on one hand, and the more traditional Viking metal on the other.
