Belfast Operatic Company brings the Olivier-winning musical about the kindness of the town of Gander to the Grand Opera House.
Belfast Operatic Company brings Come From Away to the Grand Opera House from Tuesday 23 February to Saturday 27 February 2027. It's a production directed by Gary Redpath, with Trey Doherty taking the role of Bob.
If you haven't come across it, Come From Away is the Olivier-winning musical by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and it's based on a true story. On 11 September 2001, 38 aircraft were diverted to Gander, a small town in Newfoundland with about 10,000 people. Nearly 7,000 air passengers from all over the world ended up stranded there, and the show follows the community that took them in with open hearts. Rather than dwelling on the attacks themselves, the story focuses on the extraordinary kindness that unfolded in their aftermath, and then returns to Gander ten years later when the people whose lives collided that September reunite. The score draws on folk and Celtic influences, and it's billed as a feel-good experience about community, acceptance and charity.
It's an internationally acclaimed show, and it picked up four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. There's no interval, so it runs straight through, and it's recommended for ages 10 and up. For those who need it, a signed performance is scheduled for Thursday 25 February at 8:00pm.
