Yuliya Lanina brings Dress Rehearsal to grayDUCK Gallery on East Cesar Chavez, running from August 29 through September 26. It's an interdisciplinary show that pulls from sculpture, drawing, animation, installation, and performance, and it's free to visit.
Lanina works across a lot of ground at once. She blends traditional media with new technologies to turn autobiography, mythology, and memory into emotionally charged narratives, and Dress Rehearsal focuses on transformation—the ways we carry the past, reconstruct ourselves, and imagine who we can become. It moves through the space between childhood and adulthood, innocence and experience, vulnerability and resilience. The work is rooted in her own experience but shaped by dreams and imagination, building worlds where inner states take physical form.
Lanina is an interdisciplinary artist who has exhibited and performed widely in the U.S. and internationally, from the Blanton Museum of Art and Seoul Art Museum to SIGGRAPH Asia, the 798 Beijing Biennial, Patrick Heide Gallery in London, and Vienna's MuseumsQuartier. She's also shown at SXSW Interactive and created Blossom Gazes, a permanent installation commissioned by the City of Austin. She holds an MFA from Hunter College and is an Associate Professor of Practice at The University of Texas at Austin.

There are three specific dates to keep in mind. The opening reception is Saturday, August 29, from 7 PM to 10 PM. A performance takes place Sunday, September 13, from 2 PM to 3 PM. The exhibition closes with a gallery wake on Saturday, September 26, from 5 PM to 8 PM. Admission is free throughout the run at grayDUCK Gallery, 2213 E Cesar Chavez St.
