A musical satire on Greg Abbott's political journey, produced by Tin Pan Pally, at Trinity Street Playhouse.
Young Greg Abbott: A FuQusical runs October 1–3 at Trinity Street Playhouse, produced by Tin Pan Pally. It's a political satire set in 1984, following a young Greg Abbott fresh out of law school on his way to Austin to take the bar. Along the way, he runs into a surreal parade of Texas personalities. The show mixes classic musical theatre with the raw, punk satirical spirit of FUGA!, plays with progressive casting, and touches on Abbott's life before the accident that changed everything. The production returns to Trinity Street Playhouse after original readings at the historic State Theatre, and the company encourages audiences to boo the action on stage.
Brently Heilbron wrote, composed, and directed the piece, and he's the storyteller behind Austin's emo puppet band Fragile Rock. Sarah Marie Curry served as assistant director. Max Green plays Greg Abbott, and Mical Trejo takes on the role of Ted Cruz. The show is a Tin Pan Pally production, and the company describes its mission as making Austin a home for original musicals that are as educational as they are entertaining, giving voice to the marginalized while challenging the status quo.
