Interactive, darkly comedic Halloween performance game show in which audience members play Cards Against Humanity-style cards to alter the Monster's fate.
Communication by Captivation is bringing Wild Card Frankenstein to SquareRut Kava Bar starting Thursday, October 22, and running through October 31. It's a darkly comedic, interactive game show for the Halloween season that takes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and lets the audience hijack it. The setup is a bit like Cards Against Humanity: you play your own cards to disrupt the experiment and change the Monster's fate in real time, so what happens on stage depends on what the room throws at it.
Communication by Captivation, or CBC, is an Austin-based community of multimedia artists—cartoonists and live performers—that stages storytelling both in person and online. This is a fully self- and patron-funded group, and they've put on a fair number of Austin productions over the years, including Frank's Life, Glengarry Glen Ross, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and last year's Theater Against Humanity series. Wild Card Frankenstein fits right into that mix of storytelling and audience participation.
One thing to keep in mind before you buy: the show contains adult language, themes, and context, and it's not for all ages. If you're bringing a group, that's a good detail to have in mind.
