Annual Austin independent music gathering featuring Thundercat, 54 Ultra and more, with a holiday market and festive cocktails.
Thundercat and 54 Ultra headline the first night of Holiday Hootenanny at Radio/East on Friday, December 11. It's an annual Austin gathering that rounds up the city's independent music scene before the holidays, and this year it returns to Radio/East over two nights. The whole thing started from an idea shared by promoter Resound Presents and Austin concert photographer and Todo Records partner Pooneh Ghana to get every corner of the local scene into the same room. Along with the music, there's a holiday market, festive cocktails, and a mechanical reindeer.
Thundercat is the stage name of bassist, songwriter, and vocalist Stephen Bruner, whose music is deeply rooted in jazz. His father, Ronald Bruner Sr., is an internationally renowned jazz drummer who played with the Temptations, Diana Ross, and Gladys Knight, and his brother Ronald Bruner Jr. is a Grammy-winning drummer. Before his solo career, Stephen played bass in Suicidal Tendencies and toured Japan with Stanley Clarke at 16; as Thundercat he has worked with Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu, Wiz Khalifa, and Earl Sweatshirt.
