Live country and honky-tonk music night with Weldon Henson and Matt Mouton at the historic Broken Spoke venue.
Weldon Henson and Matt Mouton are playing Broken Spoke on Tuesday, September 29. It's part of a Tuesday night tradition there, with Mouton taking the restaurant from 6 to 8 PM and Henson taking the dancehall at 8:15 PM.
The night is built around traditional Texas country and honky-tonk, and the two sets follow that same line. Mouton opens the evening in the restaurant, and Henson takes over the dancehall later on, so you can catch both in one night if you're there early. It's a double bill that keeps the music going from the early evening through the main set.
Broken Spoke is one of the city's longest-running dancehalls, opened in 1964 by James M. White. It's known as the 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls,' and it still operates as a live music venue that serves homestyle meals—the chicken fried steak is the one people talk about. Beyond the music, there are two-step dance lessons led by instructor Terri White from Wednesday to Saturday, 8 to 9 PM, so the dance floor is a big part of what happens here.
